Beach, Mukherji Resolution to Designate an Annual ‘Wounded Warrior Appreciation Week’ Approved by Senate

TRENTON – The Senate today approved a resolution sponsored by Senators James Beach and Raj Mukherji that would designate the first week of May each year as “Wounded Warrior Appreciation Week”.

“We owe a debt of gratitude to the selfless service of veterans who defended our freedom and our nation,” said Senator Beach (D-Burlington/Camden). “Recognizing the first week of May as Wounded Warrior Appreciation Week is one way that we can honor their sacrifice and the battle wounds – both physical and invisible – that they continue to endure.”

The resolution, SJR-71, acknowledges that advancements in medicine have allowed many more veterans to survive injuries that would have been fatal in the past and that the wounds faced by veterans can be more than just physical. The resolution notes that as many as 400,000 veterans live with combat-related stress, major depression, and PTSD.

The resolution was approved in a unanimous vote.
