23 May: Van Drew/Madden Bill To Designate Portion Of Route 9 As ‘Police Unity Tour Memorial Highway’ Clears Senate

TRENTON – A measure sponsored by Senators Jeff Van Drew and Fred H. Madden which would designate Route 9 in Cape May County as “Police Unity Tour Memorial Highway,” has been unanimously approved by the full Senate.

Started in 1997, the Police Unity Tour was created to increase awareness of the National Law Enforcement Officers’ Memorial in Washington, D.C. The Police Unity Tour has chapters throughout the country, including two in New Jersey, which would raise awareness and funding for the national memorial.

“The goal of this legislation is to promote public awareness and support of the D.C. memorial, so that we can increase the amount of funding we send to help with its expansion,” said Senator Van Drew, D-Cape May. “Our police officers risk their lives so that we can have the freedom to enjoy ours – a memorial like the one in D.C. is one way we can thank them for their service.”

“We heard today how the current system of site remediation and property cleanup in New Jersey is broken. 07 Apr: Van Drew Measure To Impound Abandoned Boats Passes Senate

TRENTON – The State Senate today approved legislation sponsored by Senator Jeff Van Drew that would allow local authorities to impound abandoned ships, boats and other watercraft.

“Since there is no current law against abandoning vessels in public waters or on public lands, we see many owners abandoning their boats when they no longer want them,” said Senator Van Drew, D-Cape May, Cumberland and Atlantic. “Abandoned and sunken vessels are a growing problem for our coastal communities. These boats are not just an eyesore but cause pollution to the surrounding area and pose navigational hazards.”

TRENTON – A resolution sponsored by Senator Jeff Van Drew which would call on Congress to enact legislation requiring the publication of a list of companies which are engaged in outsourcing United States jobs to other countries was approved by the Senate today, receiving final approval.

“Investors have a right to know whether the companies they invest in are engaged in the practice of outsourcing American jobs and undercutting the American economy,” said Senator Van Drew, D-Cape May and Cumberland. “By dragging outsourcing into the light of day, and equipping investors with the knowledge of companies’ involvement in the practice, we can bring the strength of the market to bear to sharply reduce outsourcing. Congress must demand that corporations disclose to the public whether they currently outsource jobs, or plan to outsource jobs in the near future, so that we can begin a serious discussion about how to keep American jobs on American soil.”

17 Mar: Van Drew Local Property Tax Relief Bill Passes Senate

TRENTON – The Senate approved legislation today sponsored by Senator Jeff Van Drew that would allow local library boards to transfer surplus funds to the local municipality in order to provide property tax relief to homeowners.

“This bill will provide much needed property tax relief to towns that are desperately trying to stay underneath the 4% cap while maintaining services,” said Senator Van Drew, D-Cape May, Cumberland and Atlantic. “Unfortunately, State law can mandate an annual increase in library funding far beyond what is needed, preventing our towns from efficiently and fairly using tax dollars.”
