15 Mar: Sarlo Bill To Limit Fax ‘Spam’ Receives Final Legislative Approval

TRENTON – A measure sponsored by Senator Paul A. Sarlo that would require companies to permit fax recipients to “opt-out” of receiving unsolicited faxes was unanimously approved today in the Senate.

“Unwanted and unsolicited faxes are a nuisance, that waste money,” said Senator Sarlo, D-Bergen, Essex and Passaic. “By allowing businesses the choice of ‘opting-out’ they would be able to put their profits to better use.”

22 Feb: Sarlo On Budget Proposal: Good Start This Year

TRENTON – Senator Paul A. Sarlo, a member of the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee, today said the Corzine Administration’s budget proposal provides opportunities for the Legislature to “grow the economy and make government more efficient.”

“I’m very pleased to see the first Governor’s budget proposal in the six years that I have been here that doesn’t contain tax hikes,” said Senator Sarlo, D-Bergen, Essex and Passaic. “It’s a refreshing place to start the budget review process because we can focus on finding new ways to help taxpayers.”

22 Feb: Sarlo Bill Advances To Help Port Authority Ease Air Traffic

TRENTON – The Senate today approved (36-0) a bill sponsored by Senator Paul A. Sarlo to help the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey purchase Stewart Airport in Newburgh, N.Y.

“This bill will help ease the air traffic congestion over the entire metropolitan region,” said Senator Sarlo, D-Bergen, Passaic and Essex.

The measure, S-25, co-sponsored by Senate President Richard J. Codey, now goes to the Assembly.

08 Feb: Sarlo Gets Bill Approved To Ease North Jersey Air Traffic

TRENTON – The Senate Transportation Committee today approved a bill sponsored by Senator Paul A. Sarlo that regional transportation experts say will greatly ease air traffic congestion at Newark Liberty International Airport and Teterboro Airport.

Senator Sarlo’s bill, S-25, which would authorize the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to purchase Stewart Airport in New York State, was approved unanimously and forwarded to the full Senate.

25 Jan: Sarlo To Support Port Authority Move To Help Teterboro

TRENTON – Senator Paul Sarlo today said he will sponsor legislation to authorize the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to purchase Stewart International Airport in New Windsor, N.Y.

Senator Sarlo said he was grateful to Senate President Richard J. Codey for agreeing to his request to be the prime sponsor of the legislation needed to authorize the Port Authority’s plan to purchase the New York airport. Senator Codey will co-sponsor Senator Sarlo’s bill.

09 Nov: Sarlo/Weinberg Measure To Protect Children From Unsafe Toys Clears Assembly Consumer Affairs Committee

TRENTON – The Assembly Consumer Affairs Committee today unanimously approved a measure sponsored by Senators Paul A. Sarlo and Loretta Weinberg that would require child care facilities to remove all unsafe or recalled items from their centers.

“As the father of two young sons I know how important it is for parents to monitor their kids’ toys, to help ensure that they are safe and will not pose a threat to their children’s safety or well-being,” said Senator Sarlo, D-Bergen, Essex and Passaic. “Child safety is a serious issue. If a product has been found to pose a threat to our children, daycare centers must make it a priority to make sure that the item is removed so that kids don’t get hurt.”

20 Oct: Sarlo Calls On Treasury To Remove Sales Tax From Ymca’s

WOOD-RIDGE – Senator Paul A. Sarlo today urged the New Jersey Department of the Treasury to reverse its decision to force non-profit organizations like the YMCA to collect sales tax on the dues their members pay.

“When the Legislature voted to modernize New Jersey’s sales tax structure, it was with the understanding that organizations such as the YMCA would not be required to collect those taxes,” explained Senator Sarlo, D-Bergen, Essex and Passaic.

TRENTON – Senator Paul A. Sarlo, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, announced today that he would introduce legislation asking voters to strip the Attorney General and Secretary of State of the constitutional protections of their offices, leaving them subject to the same terms of employment as other cabinet members.

“Constitutional protections for the Attorney General and the Secretary of State is an idea whose time has come and gone,” said Senator Sarlo, D-Bergen, Essex and Passaic. “At one point, these posts required additional job security to effectively accomplish the mission of the office. But in recent years, the hurdles to remove them have kept some people in the job a lot longer than they should have been.”
