Lesniak Named Chairman Of Senate Economic Growth Panel

TRENTON – Senator Raymond J. Lesniak has been named Chairman of the Senate Economic Growth Committee for the new Senate session by Senate President Richard J. Codey.

“Ray Lesniak’s insights on growth issues for New Jersey are invaluable,” said Senator Codey. “Ray’s leadership abilities are augmented by his experience in helping to revitalize Elizabeth and his skills as a gifted communicator.”

Senator Lesniak said he was honored by the appointment as Chairman of the panel, which he also chaired in the last Senate session, and looks forward to the challenges ahead.

“We will be looking at the tremendous potential of renewable energy resources,” Senator Lesniak said. “We have to consider new ways of tapping into innovative revenue sources while protecting the environment at the same time.”

Senator Codey also reappointed Senator Lesniak as Vice Chair of the Senate Commerce Committee and as a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Senator Lesniak siad he was extremely impressed with the credentials of his two new Democratic counterparts on the Economic Growth panel, Senators Sandra B. Cunningham, D-Jersey City, and Teresa Ruiz, D-Newark.

“Both Senators Cunningham and Ruiz bring their experiences in dealing with the challenges of urban New Jersey and will be significant contributors to new legislative initiatives,” said Senator Lesniak.

Senator Codey announced that Senator Cunningham would serve as Vice Chair of the committee.
