Senator Jim Whelan, D-Atlantic

Senator Will Answer Questions from Constituents Live on Web Chat

NORTHFIELD – Senator Jim Whelan will hold his first-ever ‘Twitter Town Hall’ via live Web chat on Monday, July 9 at 3 PM in order to answer the questions that are on the minds of his constituents in the 2nd Legislative District.

“With advances in technology, we’re given new ways to interact with the people who’ve elected us to represent their interests in our State’s capital,” said Senator Whelan, D-Atlantic City. “Our ‘Twitter Town Hall’ event will be the first of its kind in the New Jersey Legislature, and will hopefully establish a model for other legislators to follow. I look forward to hearing from my constituents and answering their questions.”

The live Web chat will begin broadcasting on the New Jersey Senate Democrats’ uStream channel, http://www.ustream.tv/channel/njsendems, at 3 PM, and Senator Whelan will answer questions for an hour. Barbara Altman from 1400 WOND AM will serve as moderator. Ms. Altman’s radio show, “Barbara Altman’s Front Porch,” can be heard weekdays, 10am-12pm on 1400 WOND AM.

Individuals with questions can tweet them to Senator Whelan’s twitter handle, @SenJimWhelan, or e-mail them to the district office at SenWhelan@njleg.org. The office has compiled questions for the last few weeks and will continue accepting questions until right before the web chat begins, but individuals should be advised that due to time constraints, not all questions will be read during the town hall.

Following the live Web chat, the archived video will be made available on the Senate Dems’ uStream and YouTube accounts (http://www.youtube.com/njsendems) and on Senator Whelan’s YouTube account (http://www.youtube.com/SenWhelan).

During the town hall broadcast, Senator Whelan’s district office will be open to news media for a photo spray only. Senator Whelan will answer media questions before and after the broadcast.
