Rice Reacts To The State Of The State

TRENTON – Senator Ronald L. Rice, D-Essex, issued the following statement regarding Governor Corzine’s State of the State Address today:

“As Chairman of the Senate Community and Urban Affairs Committee and Chairman of the Legislative Black Caucus, I’d like to thank Governor Corzine for his honest comments on the tough road ahead and commend him for his commitment to finding real and lasting property tax relief.

“Although Governor Corzine’s message lacked substance, I know that there will be time for more in-depth debate of our State’s important issues after he gives his budget message in February. At that time, the Legislative Black Caucus will release our annual agenda message.

“Over the next few months, I will closely monitor the school funding formula process to ensure that schools in need receive proper help. I will see to it that the Abbott Districts are protected.

“Governor Corzine mentioned that he is concerned about and will look at finding affordable housing. I want to go one step further. As Chairman of the Senate Community and Urban Affairs Committee, I want to assure the citizens of New Jersey that affordable housing will be the committee’s top priority.”
