Senator Coniglio Reacts To Long-Awaited Budget Agreement

TRENTON – Senator Joseph Coniglio, D-Bergen, today released the following statement regarding the long-awaited budget agreement reached this afternoon by Governor Jon Corzine, Senate President Richard J. Codey and Assembly Speaker Joseph Roberts:

“The events of the past week have allowed Governor Corzine to show that he really is Governor. He stepped up and took a leadership role in voicing the need for true fiscal reform which the people of New Jersey really need, and for that he should be commended.

“Senator Codey did an excellent job in laying the groundwork for and proposing this compromise; one that is truly in the State’s best interest.

“This week’s tragic shut down of many State government services affected so many lives, but in the long run, the citizens will benefit greatly from property tax stability and real reform.

“This compromise is proof that this Legislature and this Governor aren’t about rhetoric, but real action, and we all know that actions speak louder than words.”
