Trenton – Senator Angela V. McKnight (D-Hudson) issued the following statement regarding CarePoint Health beginning talks on its financial restructuring:
“As CarePoint Health begins discussions on its financial restructuring, my primary concern is ensuring that hospital employees and the public remain well-informed throughout this process.
“This is so much more than just a business matter – it directly impacts employees’ livelihoods and the ability of vulnerable patients to access essential healthcare. These 3 safety-net hospitals serve a diverse community and provide care to tens of thousands of underserved people each year, regardless of their insurance, citizenship status, or income. Without them, neighboring hospitals will be overburdened and the health of our community will be put in jeopardy. We must take every possible action to ensure these hospitals remain open or, if necessary, implement a plan to secure alternative care for those in need.
“As we move forward, I ask CarePoint’s volunteer board, the Department of Health, and the Governor’s Office to provide regular updates on the status of all 3 hospitals to protect CarePoint’s dedicated staff and the Hudson County community. Our community’s health depends on it.”
