Senator Sarlo On State Of The State Address

TRENTON – Senator Paul Sarlo, D-Bergen, Essex and Passaic, today released the following statement regarding Governor Corzine’s State of the State address:

“During today’s State of the State address, Governor Corzine laid out a number of good ideas for reform.

“While looking at necessary property tax relief we must also focus on reforming our methods of educational funding. It’s imperative that we in the legislature urge the administration to release its school funding numbers so that we can start down the path to real reform.

“My constituents from Bergen County approach me all the time, asking for help in cutting their school funding bills. In Bergen County, the majority of school funding comes from property taxes and we receive very little from the State. We must work to make sure that wealthier communities don’t get the short end of the funding stick, simply because residents make more money.”
