Senator Weinberg Applauds Creation Of Division Of Minority And Women Business Development

TRENTON – Senator Loretta Weinberg, D-Bergen, released the following statement today regarding Governor Jon Corzine’s signing of Executive Order 34:

“I’d like to congratulate Governor Corzine on establishing the new Division of Minority and Women Business Development. The signing of this executive order is very important because so many of our small businesses are owned by minorities and women, and we in New Jersey want to give them every opportunity to succeed and thrive.

“I’d also like to applaud the Governor for directing the various State departments to designate a liaison to help them work with the new Division to encourage more women and minorities to open their own businesses.

” I don’t need a study commission report to affirm what I already know – that helping to create and grow successful women and minority-owned businesses will help benefit the State’s economy. It is also important that New Jersey’s commitment to these businesses be reflected in the awarding of State contracts.

“During my tenure in the Legislature, I’ve sponsored a number of measures aimed at helping to support women and minority-owned businesses. Today’s signing of Executive Order 34 is definitely a step in the right direction toward creating a more even playing field for aspiring entrepreneurs.”
