TRENTON – Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg issued the following statement on Verizon’s announcement that it will commit to pay equity:
“We are encouraged that Verizon has committed to promoting pay equity and recognizes that doing so will only strengthen the company. We look forward to seeing the results of this effort and are hopeful that more businesses in the state will take an active role in ensuring that wage discrimination is not occurring. But we must also ensure that our laws protect employees working in companies that are not operating fairly.
“There is no doubt that the momentum exists to address this issue in New Jersey and nationally. Millions of women marched over the weekend, with thousands marching in our state alone. Their message was that they are not going to tolerate inaction on this and other issues affecting their families. We do not plan to either. We are going to continue working until we have a strong pay equity law in place in our state.”
