SWEENEY PROMISES TO KEEP UP FIGHT TO LEGALIZE SPORTS GAMBLING IN NEW JERSEY

TRENTON – Senate President Steve Sweeney announced today that the Senate remains committed to bringing legalized sports gambling to New Jersey.

“While we are disappointed in the Third Circuit panel’s majority decision, we will continue to fight for what New Jersey voters clearly stated they desire, a legal way to wager on competitive sports.  Sports gambling is also a potential economic lifeline to our casino and racetrack industries. We will appeal this decision to the full Third Circuit Court of Appeals,” said Senator Sweeney.

Recent studies have suggested that Americans bet more than $100 billion on sports illegally each year.
