28 Jun: Turner Bill Creating School Choice Program Headed To Governor’s Desk

TRENTON – With the Senate granting approval and the Assembly expected to do the same today, a measure sponsored by Senator Shirley K. Turner, which would establish an interdistrict public school choice program to enable students to attend the school that best suits their needs, will soon be headed to the Governor to be signed into law.

“This bill will help erase the socioeconomic lines drawn in the sand that for too long have prevented many students from achieving their true potential,” said Senator Turner (D-Mercer). “This measure will allow parents to choose the school that is best equipped to meet their child’s needs while, above all, ensuring that public dollars remain dedicated to fund public education.”

TRENTON – The Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee today approved a measure sponsored by Senator Shirley K. Turner that would establish an interdistrict public school choice program to enable students to attend the school that best suits their needs.

13 May: Turner Bill Would Permit Interdistrict School Choice

TRENTON – A measure sponsored by Senator Shirley K. Turner, which would allow for interdistrict public school choice, was unanimously approved today by the Senate Education Committee.

“This bill would make permanent an exceptional program which gives parents a choice of where to send their children to school, regardless of income level or socioeconomic status,” said Senator Turner, D-Mercer, who is a member of the Senate Education Panel. “It is important that students attend schools that are best suited for their educational needs and interests, and through this legislation, we would give them more options, while ensuring that educational funding for public schools kept where it belongs.”
