20 Mar: Whelan Bill To Exempt Beach Bars From Noise Control Ordinances Signed Into Law

TRENTON – A bill sponsored by Senator Jim Whelan that creates a blanket exemption for beach bars within the Atlantic City Tourism (ACT) district from the restrictions of the “Noise Control Act of 1971” and other local noise control ordinances has been signed into law.

“Since casinos began operating beach bars on the shoreline of Atlantic City, they have become a staple that attracts tourists and provides entertainment – all without disruption to the surrounding neighborhoods,” said Senator Whelan, D-Atlantic. “With the enactment of this law, we have leveled the playing field for all casinos to construct beach bars no matter when they are built. This law gives casinos the freedom to establish these beach-front bars that will attract new customers and strengthen the tourism and gaming industry in Atlantic City, without having to conform to noise control laws, which frankly aren’t necessary for the area in which these beach bars are located.”

26 Jun: Whelan Bill To Exempt Beach Bars From Noise Control Laws Advances From Senate

TRENTON – A bill sponsored by Senator Jim Whelan which would create a blanket exemption for beach bars within the Atlantic City Tourism (ACT) district from the restrictions of the “Noise Control Act of 1971” and other local noise control ordinances was approved by the Senate yesterday by a vote of 39-0.

“Since casinos started constructing beach bars a few years ago, they’ve become a mainstay of the Atlantic City entertainment industry, and have created little disruption to the surrounding neighborhood” said Senator Whelan, D-Atlantic. “With the expansion of our casino industry – most recently with the opening of Revel – new casino operators want to have the same ability to operate beach bars as those that were in business in 2011. This bill corrects an oversight in the initial law which would have prohibited new casinos from setting up and running beach bars as a means to attract visitors to their facilities.”

TRENTON – A bill sponsored by Senator Jim Whelan which would create a blanket exemption for beach bars within the Atlantic City Tourism (ACT) district from the restrictions of the “Noise Control Act of 1971” and other local noise control ordinances was unanimously approved by the Senate Environment and Energy Committee today.

“Since their implementation a few years ago, beach bars have become a lucrative part of the Atlantic City casino business, with little disruption to the residential neighborhoods in Atlantic City,” said Senator Whelan, D-Atlantic. “As our casino industry expands – most recently with the addition of Revel – new casino operators want the same ability to operate a beach bar as the casinos which were already in business prior to 2011. This bill corrects an oversight in the initial law, and allows new casinos to set up their own beach bars as a means to attract new visitors to Atlantic City.”
