14 Jan: Codey Bills To Crack Down On Internet Sexual Predators Signed Into Law

TRENTON – Two bills sponsored by Senate President Richard J. Codey, D-Essex which will crack down on Internet predators and increase safety precautions on the World Wide Web were signed into law over the weekend by Governor Corzine.

“There’s no question that the home computer has changed so many aspects of our daily lives,” said Senate President Codey. “What many computer users don’t know, however, is that danger can be just a mouse-click away, in the form of a sexual predator seeking to ensnare their his or her victim. Now, in New Jersey we have much stronger protections against being lured by a predator – and much stronger penalties against those who would use the Internet to further their own sick agendas.”

15 Mar: Full Senate Gives Green Light To Codey/Girgenti Package Cracking Down On Internet Predators

TRENTON – The full Senate today approved a package of bills sponsored by Senate President Richard J. Codey (D-Essex) and Senator John Girgenti (D-Bergen, Passaic) that would give New Jersey some of the toughest tools in the nation to crack down on the growing threat of Internet predators.

“The best way to protect our kids is to educate them, stay on top of their Internet activity, and turn these bills into law,” said Sen. Codey. “We can either leave it to Dateline NBC to try and protect our kids or we can step up to the plate now and provide law enforcement with the tools they need to effectively address this threat.”

26 Feb: Senate Committee Approves Codey/Girgenti Bills To Pull The Plug On Internet Predators

TRENTON – The Senate Law, Public Safety and Veterans Affairs Committee today advanced a package of bills sponsored by Senate President Richard J. Codey (D-Essex) and Senator John Girgenti (D-Bergen, Passaic) that would give New Jersey some of the toughest tools in the nation to crackdown on the growing threat of Internet predators.

“I’m sick and tired of turning on programs like Dateline and seeing more and more sexual predators preying on our kids. You can be sure the ones we’re seeing on television are only the tip of the iceberg,” said Sen. Codey. “Hopefully these bills will help a lot of parents sleep better at night by providing us with the tools to crack down on sexual predators and other criminals looking to exploit our kids.”

22 May: Codey To Pull The Plug On Online Sexual Predators

TRENTON – Senate President and former Governor Richard J. Codey, D-Essex, today announced that he will introduce a package of bills that would make New Jersey a national leader in the fight to crack down on online sexual predators by providing the state with nearly unparalleled authority to monitor or restrict Internet access by convicted sex offenders and impose severe penalties for those convicted of using the Internet for luring.

“We see online sexual predators all over the news these days,” said Sen. Codey. “Their presence has infected the Internet like an out of control computer virus. Essentially, these bills will create a firewall between our children and predators.”
