27 Feb: Girgenti Bill Educates Students About New Drugs

TRENTON – Legislation sponsored by Senator John A. Girgenti, to ensure that students are made aware of new popular “designer” drugs like Ecstasy, “the party drug,” and Rohypnol, the “date-rape drug,” was unanimously approved by the full Senate today.

“Research has proven that anti drug campaigns in the media and educational programs at school are successful in fighting the war on drugs,” said Senator Girgenti, D-Bergen and Passaic. “Every day the number of new doses of these ‘designer’ drugs found in New Jersey are growing. These newer drugs are extremely dangerous and are more potent than previously popular drugs like marijuana. Because of the increasing popularity of these new drugs with teens, I want to make sure that we educate minors about these drugs before it’s too late.”

26 Jan: Girgenti Bill Educates Students About New Dangerous Drugs

TRENTON – Legislation sponsored by Senator John A. Girgenti, to ensure that students are made aware of the dangers of newly popular “designer” drugs like ecstasy before they encounter them, was passed by the Senate Education Committee today.

“Research has shown that educational programs on ‘designer’ drugs in schools have led to a change in the perception students have on the dangers of these drugs,” said Senator Girgenti, D-Bergen and Passaic. “Recent estimates suggest that within the Newark, New York, and Jersey Shore corridors over 750,000 dosages of new drugs, commonly called ‘designer’ drugs are being consumed each week. These drugs are stronger and more lethal than drugs found on the street only a few years ago. We need to educate our children about these new drugs and their deadly effects before it is too late.”
