Vitale Statement On President Obama’s American Jobs Act Announcement

Says President Laid Out Roadmap for American Economic Recovery

TRENTON – State Senator Joseph F. Vitale, D-Middlesex, issued the following statement regarding President Barrack Obama’s address to Congress last night to unveil the American Jobs Act, sweeping legislation to put Americans back to work:

“In his speech to Congress, the President hit all the right marks in laying out his vision for American economic recovery. By focusing on the principles that made America a world power – hard work, fairness and common sense – we can restore our economic well-being, reverse the tide on rising unemployment, and position the United States for the challenges that lay ahead in a 21st century global market.

“As a small business owner, the President’s remarks about small businesses rang particularly true. As a nation, we need to do more to support the businesses which are creating economic opportunity and putting people to work. At a time when the large corporations are shrinking away from our Main Streets, small business owners are picking up the slack and moving our economy forward.

“The President’s plan seems tailor-made to win bipartisan appeal at a time when political polarization makes transformational change difficult, if not impossible. I hope leaders on both sides of the political aisle will be able to work together to quickly and thoroughly implement the President’s plan to get our economy back on track. We cannot afford partisan gridlock and political posturing. I urge our nation’s Congressional leaders to make this bill a priority and fix our broken economy.”
