Whelan: Focus On What Works Essential To Comprehensive Gaming Review

ATLANTIC CITY – Senator Jim Whelan – chairman of the Senate State Government, Wagering, Tourism & Historic Preservation Committee – today welcomed Gov. Chris Christie’s creation of a special task force to review the state’s sports and gaming oversight functions.

Whelan, D-Atlantic, released the following statement:

“There is no doubt that making New Jersey a world-class destination requires a comprehensive review of how the state’s various gaming and sporting-related authorities and agencies work and interact.

“As out-of-state competition continues to strengthen, we need to ensure all facets of our gaming and entertainment economy are working in synch. We cannot throw money at ineffective operations or promote one region of the state at the expense of another.

“This is an opportunity to put into practice what works, cut out what doesn’t and ensure efficient and effective promotion and management of all our entertainment and gaming assets.

“While I am disappointed that there is no one directly from the casino industry on the task force, I look forward to working with the Governor, his task force and key stakeholders to ensure the right reforms are indentified.”
