TRENTON – Senator Brian P. Stack, D-Hudson, issued the following statement on today’s testimony from State Treasurer David Rousseau and the Office of Legislative Services concerning revised revenue estimates for the FY 2008 and FY 2009 State Budgets.

“With respect to the 2008 surplus, it’s important that we use these funds to pay down State debt and restore financial stability. I support the recommendations by the State Treasurer for the Legislature to create a bill that would require the financial windfall be placed into a special fund for the specific purpose of debt reduction.

TRENTON – Senator Brian P. Stack, D-Hudson, a member of the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee, issued the following statement today on the Committee’s hearing of the FY 2009 Department of Law and Public Safety Budget, in particular focusing on the funding New Jersey spends on anti-gang initiatives in New Jersey’s urban communities:

“In the last few years, New Jersey has ratcheted up gang prevention and policing programs in urban communities that have been terrorized by gang crime and violence.

TRENTON – Senator Brian P. Stack today urged the Corzine Administration to increase efforts to assist Hispanic businesses gain access to job development and economic assistance programs that are available in State government.

“There are more than 700 Hispanic businesses in my area,” said Senator Stack, D-33rd. “I believe the State would be providing a great service if it held its job fairs and other economic development activities in Hudson County.”

TRENTON – Senator Brian Stack, D-Hudson and a member of the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee, reacted today to Governors Corzine’s austere Budget Address:

“I commend Governor Corzine for his continued dedication to getting New Jersey’s financial house in order. It is clear we still have a long way to go, but we are on the right path to fiscal discipline and responsible budgets.

TRENTON – Senator Brian P. Stack today said Hudson County residents are “deeply concerned” about the impact of the Corzine Administration’s toll road-debt reduction plan on their daily lives.

“Lately, it’s been the number one concern I hear about,” said Senator Stack, D-33. “People who use the turnpike on their daily commute will definitely need a break from the highest fare increases.”

TRENTON – Senator Brian P. Stack was sworn in today to a four-year term as State Senator and pledged to focus on “education reform, property tax relief and the needs of the people” of his 33rd Legislative District.”

“I’ll be monitoring the new school funding formula and working to improve it to make sure it helps all children and doesn’t pull back on serving the needs of Abbott Districts,” said Senator Stack.
