His legislative efforts over the years have spring-boarded Senator Vitale into being one of the most respected voices on health care in the state of New Jersey. First as a member and now the Chairman of the Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee, Senator Vitale has been instrumental in passing laws that have improved safety at health care facilities having authored the landmark Patient Safety Act, protecting nurses from forced mandatory overtime and has addressed the medical malpractice liability insurance crisis.


Senator Madden has earned recognition from numerous organizations for his legislative work. He was awarded the New Jersey State Chamber of Commerce Legislator of the Year in 2013 and was recognized by the Food Council Committee for Good Government as a 2013 Distinguished Legislator. Additionally, Senator Madden was awarded the Veterans of Foreign Wars Department of New Jersey Outstanding Legislator of the Year for 2011, the Family Resource Network and Epilepsy Foundation of New Jersey Legislator of the Year Award in 2010; the Arc of New Jersey Legislator of the Year Award in 2009; the Alzheimer’s Association Delaware Valley Chapter Public Servant Award in 2007; and the National Kidney Foundation’s Bruce Zakheim M.D. Memorial and Advocacy Award in 2007.
