12 Dec: Vitale Resolution To Study Emergency Medical Services In NJ Approved

TRENTON – A resolution sponsored by Senator Joseph F. Vitale which would provide for an independent study of New Jersey’s Emergency Medical Services was unanimously approved today by the Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee.

“Our EMS system in New Jersey is absolutely vital to the continued health and well-being of the State,” said Senator Vitale, D-Middlesex, the Chairman of the Senate Health Committee. “The moments after the onset of severe medical trauma are crucial to the survival of the patient, and rapid and high-quality response is a must to improve the survival rate of what would otherwise be fatal illnesses. We should constantly be reviewing the strengths and weaknesses of our EMS, to know how to provide the best possible emergency response to medical crises in the Garden State.”

08 Dec: Vitale/Madden Measure to Require Defibrullators at Health Clubs Approved by Senate

TRENTON – A measure sponsored by Senators Joseph F. Vitale and Fred H. Madden that would require all registered health clubs in New Jersey to be equipped with an automated external defibrillator on site and have employees trained in its use was approved today by the Senate, with a final vote of 37-1.

“In situations of cardiac arrest, rapid response is the best way to save lives,” said Senator Vitale, D-Middlesex, who Chairs the Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee. “Health clubs and gyms are places of high activity; activity which can often put strain on the heart. Requiring the facilities to have defibrillators could mean the difference between life and death in an emergency situation.”

05 Dec: Vitale/Buono Bill Would Clarify Health Insurance Reimbursement Rules

TRENTON – The Senate Commerce Committee approved legislation today sponsored by Senators Joseph Vitale and Barbara Buono that would set out specific guidelines for health insurance providers to follow in authorizing the delivery and payment of health care services by doctors and hospitals.

“For most doctors and hospitals, providing the best possible care for their patients is only half the battle,” said Senator Vitale, D-Middlesex. “Dealing with the bureaucracies created by the health insurance companies to get approval for treatment and final reimbursement can be a nightmare. For doctors, these new standards will be more timely and less uncertain than the current system. “

01 Dec: Vitale Statement On Increasing Age From 18 to 19 To Buy Cigarettes

TRENTON – Senator Joseph F. Vitale, D-Middlesex, the Chairman of the Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee, issued the following statement regarding Committee approval, by a vote of 6-0 with one abstention, of a bill he sponsored with Governor Codey to increase the age at which vendors can legally sell cigarettes from 18 to 19:

“The most sure-fire way to avoid any one of the myriad of health risks attached to smoking is never to start.

“The logic is flawless, but so many of our State’s kids cannot see past the peer pressure of high school to realize just what a risk they’d be taking by lighting up. They only know that on the school yard, the ‘cool kids’ are the ones who smoke.

01 Dec: Vitale Bill Would Allow Minors to Consent to Medical Treatment

TRENTON – A measure sponsored by Senator Joseph F. Vitale, to clarify minors’ rights to consent to medical or surgical care, was approved by the Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee today.

“Health care professionals work hard every day to provide the best possible care to minors, but often the rules about their consent prohibits teens from getting necessary medical treatment,” said Senator Vitale, Chairman of the Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee. “There is currently a law that says minors can consent to treatment, but this bill would set the minimum age for consent at 13 years old.

04 Nov: Media Advisory: Senior ‘Town Hall’ Meeting – Medicare D Prescription Drug Program

WOODBRIDGE – Senator Joseph F. Vitale will hold a Senior Town Hall Meeting on Monday, November 7th to inform seniors how the new Medicare D prescription drug benefit will affect their PAAD and Senior Gold benefits.

25 Oct: Vitale to Doctors: Eleven Grand is Real Money

TRENTON – Senator Joseph F. Vitale, today said the subsidy checks of nearly $11,000 being mailed out to doctors under the new medical malpractice insurance reform law represent “real premium assistance” to the 1,200 recipients who applied for them.

“This is real money in any profession, but it shows the law is working to help doctors in the high-risk specialty fields,” said Senator Vitale, D-Middlesex, and Senate sponsor of the medical malpractice reform. The State announced the first checks were mailed out today.

One year out, the report finds that New Jersey is still ranked poorly in many of the key areas in which we needed to improve.

22 Sep: Vitale Measure To Protect Against Identity Theft Becomes Law

TRENTON – A bill sponsored by Senator Joseph F. Vitale which would provide substantial protections for New Jersey’s consumers from identity theft, and give them the tools to prove their innocence after a theft takes place was signed into law today by Governor Codey.

“In today’s high-tech world, we’re learning more and more that a criminal with a stolen social security number can be a very dangerous thing,” said Senator Vitale, D-Middlesex. “With the right information, a thief can run up thousands of dollars in illegal purchases, all the while leaving you holding the bag for their shopping spree. The damage done to an individual’s credit history from identity theft can be lasting and substantial, but with the right tools we can make identity theft cases less frequent and less devastating when they do happen.”
