TRENTON – Legislation sponsored by Senators Joseph F. Vitale and Nicholas J. Sacco to prohibit a temporary help firm from withholding or diverting wages from an employee was approved by the Senator Labor Committee.

“This measure is another way to both protect the temporary workers in New Jersey, and also crack down on the illegal van services used to commute to and from work,” said Senator Vitale, D-Middlesex. “This particular bill seeks to prevent temp agencies from forcing their clients to pay for illegal van services in order to get paid.

TRENTON – Senator Joseph F. Vitale and Assemblyman Neil M. Cohen applauded today’s New Jersey Supreme Court decision which holds that John Hardwicke, a victim of sexual abuse, able to sue American Boychoir, the school that put him in harm’s way.

Last year, Senator Vitale and Assemblyman Cohen authored legislation breaking down the protection of “charitable immunity” for charitable organizations that, through negligence, put children in danger of being sexually abused. The measure was signed into law in January.

21 Jul: Vitale: Any Policy Decisions Involving Sibling Visitation Should Be ‘Child Centered’

WOODBRIDGE – Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee Chairman Joseph F. Vitale has vowed to introduce legislation and hold a hearing to discuss this week’s State Supreme Court decision not to rule on a case regarding the required continuation of sibling visitation after adoption.

“Removing children from their parents’ custody is an extremely traumatic experience – an experience that can be made easier on the children knowing that their siblings are with them,” said Senator Vitale, D-Middlesex. “Children need the support of their siblings to help maintain a sense of self and of continuity. Unfortunately, not all siblings can be adopted by the same family, which is where the importance of legislation addressing sibling visitation comes into play.”

TRENTON – A bill sponsored by Senator Joseph F. Vitale which would create the Department of Children and Families (DCF) as a standalone department in the executive branch to deal with children’s welfare and family support programs was approved by the Senate today by a vote of 38-1, and received final legislative approval from the Assembly by a vote of 71-7, with one abstention.

“Child welfare and family support need to be a top priority in this and every government,” said Senator Vitale, D-Middlesex, the Chair of the Senate Health panel. “By crafting a standalone, cabinet-level department to consolidate New Jersey’s child safety net and family support programs, we are meeting our obligations to children in need in the Garden State.”
