TRENTON – Senator Shirley K. Turner welcomed final Senate approval of her package of bills that would implement several of the recommendations of the Motor Vehicle Affordability and Fairness Task Force aimed at making it easier for individuals with driver’s license suspensions to get their driving privileges reinstated.

TRENTON – Senator Shirley K. Turner welcomed final legislative approval for her legislation that would expand the list of those individuals authorized to administer emergency epinephrine at a school to include more school personnel and the allergic students themselves as it passed the Assembly today.

“When an allergic reaction can go from manageable to disastrous in a matter of minutes, the timely administration of epinephrine can be the difference between life and death,” said Senator Turner, D-Mercer and Chair of the Senate Education Committee. “It makes no sense to prevent children who face the threat of anaphylactic shock every day from using an ‘epi-pen’ when necessary.”

Turner, Assembly Majority Leader Bonnie Watson Coleman and Assemblyman Reed Gusciora today expressed their “deep disappointment” with the decision by the Department of Health and Senior Services to permit Capital Health System at Mercer to move from Trenton to Lawrence.

TRENTON – Senator Shirley K. Turner welcomed approval by the Senate Transportation Committee today of her package of bills that would implement several of the recommendations of the Motor Vehicle Affordability and Fairness Task Force aimed at making it easier for individuals with driver’s license suspensions to get their driving privileges reinstated.

23 Nov: Turner Measure Would Require Cash Bail For Gun Charges

TRENTON – Senator Shirley K. Turner today welcomed Senate committee approval of her measure to require that any bail posted by a defendant charged with weapons offenses be paid fully in cash.

“When someone has a history of illegally using weapons, it shouldn’t be easy for that individual to post bail and get back out on the streets,” explained Senator Turner, D-Mercer. “Many of these individuals are involved in gangs, and between drug trafficking and other criminal activities, it is easy to put together the 10% needed to post a bond. The bar must be set much higher.”

TRENTON – Legislation sponsored by Senators Stephen M. Sweeney and Shirley K. Turner that would require new residents to register their vehicles with the Motor Vehicles Commission (MVC) within 60 days of becoming a New Jersey resident was approved by the Senate Transportation Committee.

“We need to crack down on New Jersey residents driving cars registered in other states,” said Senator Sweeney, D-Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem. “Out of state, out of date license plates make it incredibly difficult for the police to track hit and run suspects and in turn make our streets less safe.”

TRENTON – A proposal by Senator Shirley K. Turner to create a new joint committee in the Legislature to monitor the State’s efforts in providing affordable housing to its residents was approved today by the Senate Community and Urban Affairs Committee.

“New Jersey has a widespread affordable housing shortage that in some communities is approaching crisis proportions,” said Senator Turner, D-Mercer and a leading Senate advocate for more affordable housing. “Ask New Jersey families trying to get by on low-wage jobs or seniors living on fixed incomes about their struggles to pay the rent each month and it becomes obvious that we need to do more about the cost of living in New Jersey.”
