CODEY RESPONDS TO VETO OF BILL THAT WOULD RAISE THE MINIMUM AGE TO BUY TOBACCO TO 21

Senator Richard Codey congratulates Congressman Donald Norcross on his succession to the U.S. House of Representatives.

TRENTON – Senator Richard J. Codey issued the following statement in response to the Governor’s veto of his “Tobacco 21” bill, S-602, which would have raised the minimum age to buy tobacco products and electronic smoking devices from 19 to 21 years of age:

“I am disappointed for the people of the state and the health of the state. There is strong momentum at the local level for this initiative with towns adopting it across the state and it was only right that we do this at the statewide level.

“I plan on pursuing this legislation again this session.”
