TRENTON – Senate President Richard J. Codey (D-Essex) today released the following statement on Governor Jon Corzine’s proposed FY 2010 State Budget:
“Governor Corzine did today, what millions of households across the country are doing during this economic crisis, scrubbing their budgets to find cost-saving measures. Just like in my house, where I always have to remind my kids to turn the lights off, government needs to do that and a lot more.
“From top to bottom, we need to make sure our limited funding is going where it is needed most. I think the Governor did a good job of prioritizing. Healthcare, education and seniors, all of our most vulnerable, are seeing their resources protected or even increased.
“Make no mistake about it, the legislature will pour through this budget to see if we can find even more cost-saving measures. Now we have to hope and pray that the economy does not continue to throw us more curveballs that will send us scrambling to make up for more lost revenue.”
