Codey Statement On Obama Inauguration

TRENTON – Senate President Richard J. Codey (D-Essex) today released the following statement on the inauguration of Barack Obama as the nation’s 44th President:

“Beyond the swearing in of President John F. Kennedy, I have never witnessed anything in my lifetime that comes remotely close to the historic nature of today’s events. We are witnessing the rebirth of a nation – one that no longer hangs its head in defeat, but looks to the future as one of limitless possibilities.

“President Obama has the weight of the world on his shoulders and the hope of millions at his feet. The enormity of what lies ahead is unclear to us all. I’m a realist and I know that one person can only do so much. But if there’s anyone who can rise above the divisiveness of the last eight years and help move this nation forward, it is President Obama.

“He has proven time and again that he is willing to reach across the aisle and listen to many divergent viewpoints. That, more than anything, will be the key to helping us repair our broken economy, improve our shattered healthcare system, and restore our educational system to its rightful place at the forefront of the world. I’m confident New Jersey will finally have a partner in Washington that works with us and I wish him all the best.”
