Gopal, Scutari Bill Authorizing Issuance of Additional Alcoholic Beverage Licenses to Defunct Military Bases Redevelopment Areas Becomes Law

TRENTON – Legislation sponsored by Senator Vin Gopal and Senator Nicholas P. Scutari authorizing the issuance of additional alcoholic beverage licenses in project areas housing former federally owned military bases now under ownership of a local government entity in hopes of revitalization was signed into law today by Governor Phil Murphy.

“I am thrilled,” said Senator Gopal (D-Monmouth). “This legislation is vital for the economic success of the region.  This area has suffered since Fort Monmouth’s departure and this legislation will help spur economic growth in the district.  I am excited to see Fort Monmouth flourish with new life and to see the communities enjoy what is to come.”

“This signing is great for New Jersey,” said Senator Scutari (D-Middlesex/Somerset/Union).  “This will allow for the re-invigoration of areas with shuttered military bases to become economically sound commodities for local municipalities.  Not only will there be new destinations for consumers, but new jobs will be created benefiting the communities and the state.”

The law will allow the special license holder to sell alcoholic beverages for consumption on the licensed premises of former federally owned military bases that are currently owned by a local government entity for conversion, redevelopment, or revitalization.
