TRENTON – Senator Bob Gordon, Assemblywoman Connie Wagner and Assemblyman Tim Eustace (all D-Bergen/Passaic) said they are encouraged by today’s vote by the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority to move forward the American Dream project at the Meadowlands Complex in Bergen County.
“I am encouraged that we are finally seeing movement on this project, which for months has remained at a standstill. The American Dream project will serve as an economic engine for the region, bringing thousands of much-needed construction jobs to the area followed by permanent positions over the long-term,” said Gordon. “The Sports and Exposition Authority vote was a major step forward for this development project. Now it’s time to resolve the outstanding issues that remain, including implementing a labor agreement that ensures jobs go to local workers, so that construction can resume. Given the incredible amount of time, energy and funding that has gone into this project, we have to make sure it succeeds.”
“I’m glad that after months of waiting, we finally had a vote. This project will create jobs in a time when so many are unemployed, and put Bergen County on the map as a tourist destination. The benefits of this proposal are obvious and I am pleased the authority considered their impact as it rendered its decision on this important project,” said Wagner.
“We have been anxiously waiting for a decision on the American Dream project, so this is welcomed news. This project has the potential to be a game-changer economically speaking not just for Bergen County, but the state. I’m pleased the authority finally decided to take up this important issue. Moving it forward was the right thing to do,” said Eustace.
