Gordon/Wagner Issue Statement On Governor’s Veto Of Legislation That Would Have Banned Fracking In Nj

(TRENTON) – Senator Bob Gordon (D-Bergen) and Assemblywoman Connie Wagner (D-Bergen) issued the following joint statement today regarding the Governor’s Conditional Veto of S-2576/A-3313, legislation they sponsored, which would have permanently prohibited fracking in New Jersey:

“Governor’s Christie’s veto is extremely disappointing. The environmental dangers of fracking are well established. The consequences of allowing this procedure here in New Jersey could be catastrophic.

“A one year moratorium will do little on this issue, other than provide another year for us to see how dangerous fracking is. Fracking represents the greatest threat to our drinking water we have seen in generations. We simply cannot allow it to happen in New Jersey and we will be taking whatever steps we can to implement a total ban.”
