Karcher Looking Forward To Working On Consolidating Government

Senator Named as Member of Consolidation and Shared Services Committee in Property Tax Session

TRENTON – Senator Ellen Karcher, D-Monmouth and Mercer, issued the following statement today regarding the announcement that she will serve on the Joint Legislative Committee on Government Consolidation and Shared Services during the Legislature’s Special Session to deal with property taxes this year:

“It’s an honor to be named to a panel that will play such an integral part in reforming our State’s property tax crisis, and I look forward to the challenges ahead.

“I know well the ‘multiple municipal madness’ that affects so many on the local level, and the strict adherence to the dogma of ‘home rule’ that drives the cost of property taxes through the roof.

“Without a push towards consolidating and sharing services, and meeting the obligations of local government more efficiently than we currently do, any attempt to reform the property tax system in New Jersey is doomed to fail.

“I look forward to a productive dialogue on the issue, and helping find a solution to the property tax crisis afflicting the Garden State.”
