Media Advisory – 4th District Legislators To Attend Dedication Of Highway In Memory Of Fallen Trooper

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP – Senator Fred H. Madden and Assemblyman David R. Mayer will attend a dedication ceremony this Sunday afternoon in Dennis Township for the re-naming of New Jersey Route No. 83 as “Trooper Bertram T. Zimmerman III Memorial Highway.”

Trooper Zimmerman was a New Jersey State Police Officer who served in the Tactical Patrol Unit. The Gloucester Township resident was killed in a car crash on Route 83 earlier this year, while responding to the scene of an armed robbery.

“Trooper Zimmerman was a talented young officer, whose life was cut short in the line of duty,” said Senator Madden, D-Camden and Gloucester. “The dedication of the highway is a fitting tribute to a courageous man who gave his life working to ensure peace, order and safety throughout the state.”

Senator Madden , Assemblyman Mayer, and Assemblyman Robert Smith (D-4) also sponsored legislation, S-1605/A-2781, honoring the life of Trooper Zimmerman, and designating New Jersey Highway No. 83 as “Trooper Bertram T. Zimmerman III Memorial Highway.” S-1605/A-2781 received final legislative approval on June 21, and was signed into law on September 10.

“Trooper Zimmerman’s dedication and loyalty exemplified the best the State Police has to offer,” said Assemblyman Mayer, D-Gloucester Township. ” He gave his life so that the residents of New Jersey may be safe. The people of Dennis and Gloucester townships and throughout the state will be forever grateful.”
