Norcross: Democratic Spending Plan Represents Commitment To Middle-Class New Jerseyans

Provides Critical Funding to Education, Public Safety

TRENTON – Senator Donald Norcross (D-Camden/Gloucester) issued the following statement on the Democratic spending plan being considered by the Senate today. Senator Norcross is the sponsor of legislation (S-2969) to be heard later today that would increase the gross income tax rate on annual income exceeding $1 million, which will provide the necessary revenue to ensure that all school districts are fully funded under the School Funding Reform Act of 2008:

“This is a fair plan that represents our commitment to middle-class families. It provides critical funding to our school districts and restores money for after-school programs that working parents depend on. It provides tax relief for seniors and the working poor, and funding for basic health care services for women. And it allocates millions of dollars for public safety in our cities, providing them with the resources that are necessary to keep our residents safe.

“Further, this plan reasonably asks the extraordinarily wealthy, those making over $1 million a year, to share in the sacrifice by paying a little more to help support the needs of this state.”
