Rice Bill To Improve Access To Information About Adult Day Care Facilities Becomes Law

TRENTON – Legislation sponsored by Senator Ronald L. Rice to require the State Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) to post on its Website information on long-term care and adult day care facilities became law today.

“This law will make it easier for our citizens to investigate long-term care and adult day care centers before selecting which facility is right for them or for their loved one,” said Senator Rice, D-Essex. “It’s important that New Jersyans utilize the Website and report violations at these facilities so that we make sure that our older residents are being cared for properly.”

The enacted bill, S-942, would allow the public to access information regarding the ownership of a long-term care facility licensed by the State.

Senator Rice stated that the information to be provided on the Website will include the names of all the owners of a facility, how many other facilities are run by the same owner and the contact information.

According to Senator Rice, “The Website will provide information regarding any violations pertaining to the care of patients or the physical standards at the facility and a link to both the New Jersey Report Card for Nursing Homes maintained by DHSS and the Medicare Nursing Home Compare database maintained by the federal government.”
