Ruiz Calls on NJ Transit, PATH & Amtrak to Cross Honor All Tickets During Commuter Crisis

TRENTON – Senator M. Teresa Ruiz (D-Essex) issued the following statement on today’s transit delays, and called on NJ Transit, PATH and Amtrak to cross honor all tickets while Amtrak track work is ongoing:

“Yet again today, there was a problem with one of our rail lines resulting in delays for commuters. To add to the frustration, the cross honor policies only allowed riders to use their PATH tickets for NJ Transit trains, but not to take buses into the city. People are fed up with the continuous delays, and they deserve better.

“During this time of crisis, NJ Transit, PATH and Amtrak should be working together and cross honoring all tickets to ensure that commuters can travel in a safe and timely manner. Commuters should have the option of traveling on whatever method of transportation is most accessible, regardless of who runs it, so they don’t have to worry about missing appointments or jeopardizing their jobs. This should be an ongoing policy during the time period that Amtrak is working on the tracks.

“This is the least these agencies can do for commuters who are experiencing distress caused by the ongoing problems with the transit system in the state.”
