Ruiz, Cunningham Statement on Teacher Diversity Joint Hearing

Trenton – Senate Education Chair M. Teresa Ruiz and Higher Education Chair Sandra Cunningham issued the following statement on their joint hearing held to discuss the issue of teacher diversity:

“Today we heard from stakeholders within the education field, many of which are already taking action to increase teacher diversity in the state. Several obstacles that prevent highly qualified individuals from entering the classroom became reoccurring themes throughout the hearing. We look forward to addressing them comprehensively, and ensuring our future teachers reflect the diversity of our student body.”
