Ruiz, Pintor-Marin, Speight Applaud Attorney General, DEP Actions against Plant Plaguing Ironbound

Trenton – Senate President Pro Tempore M. Teresa Ruiz, Assemblywoman Eliana Pintor-Marin and Assemblywoman Shanique Speight issued the following statement applauding Attorney General Grewal and Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner McCabe’s announcement of a lawsuit against Darling Ingredients, Inc., a plant in the Newark’s Ironbound district that is responsible for multiple community complaints of “putrid” and nausea-inducing odors:

“We applaud the Attorney General’s office and the Department of Environmental Protection on their efforts seeking environmental justice on behalf of families who reside in the Ironbound. We will always place the health and safety of our residents above industry convenience. The odor stemming from the Darling Ingredients Plant has become a serious quality of life issue and we cannot allow companies to get away with polluting our air and exposing our community to unjust environmental impacts.”
