TRENTON – Senator Paul A. Sarlo, the Chair of the Senate Labor Committee and Vice Chairman of the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee, issued the following statement in response to Governor Corzine’s economic stimulus proposal, which was delivered to the Legislature at a joint session today:
“As a pro-business legislator, I think the Governor hit the ball out of the park in terms of his economic stimulus proposal announced today. At a time when New Jersey’s families are dealing with the fallout of an historic economic crisis the likes of which we haven’t seen since the Great Depression, Governor Corzine laid out a measured, reasonable approach to handle our short-term and long-term economic needs.
“I agree wholeheartedly with the Governor that the best thing we can do during this crisis is create jobs and encourage job growth, whether on public construction projects like roadways and schools, or private-sector expansion through credits and business incentives.
“Especially as we begin to look for ways to blunt some of the economic volatility which has gripped Wall Street and the nation’s financial sector, Governor Corzine’s financial experience is the right medicine for the State. This is why the people elected him to serve the State of New Jersey, and with today’s speech, he’s living up to the voters’ expectations of him.
“I look forward to working with his administration to bring some of his proposals from concept to reality. While there are going to be some factors and cost-drivers on a national level that are beyond our control, the Governor’s proposals are a good step in protecting the fiscal integrity of the Garden State.”
