Sen. Buono Statement On Governor’s Decision On Property Tax Deduction

TRENTON – Sen. Barbara Buono (D-Middlesex), chairwoman of the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee, issued the following statement on Governor Corzine’s decision to restore the property tax deduction:

“Restoring the property tax deduction for New Jersey households makes good fiscal sense and shows how real progress can be made when people engage in a meaningful discussion of the issues. I’m glad Governor Corzine has taken the time to talk with people from all over the state and really hear their concerns.

“This is a great example of how democracy should work, with elected leaders listening to the people and being responsive to them. It’s not always pretty, but it’s how we take good ideas and make them better.

“We’re just at the beginning of the budget review process, and the budget will change as we continue to get feedback from the people. That’s why I’m a little puzzled that my Republican colleagues can’t seem to do any better than responding with the same list of everything they’re against. Maybe, before the budget review is over, they’ll share with the rest of us just what it is they’re for.”
