Senate Budget And Appropriations Committee To Hear From Commissioners Of Military And Veterans Affairs And Corrections Wednesday

Departmental Consolidations Will Also Be Discussed

TRENTON – The Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee is scheduled to hear testimony on Governor Corzine’s proposed FY 2009 budget, from the Departments of Military and Veterans Affairs (9 AM) and Corrections/State Parole Board (10 AM), as well as testimony on Departmental Consolidations (1 PM) on Wednesday, April 16 in Committee Room 4 of the State House Annex.

Committee Chair Senator Barbara Buono, D-Middlesex, said she expects the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs hearing to focus on National Guard deployments, and services and resources for veterans returning home from combat.

The Department of Corrections/State Parole Board hearing will focus on prisoner re-entry and recidivism rates, Senator Buono said.

During the Committee’s final hearing, it will hear testimony from State Treasurer David Rousseau and other Cabinet officials on the proposed consolidation of services of the Departments of Agriculture, Personnel and Commerce, said Senator Buono.
