Senate Education Committee To Hear From Commissioner Schundler Thursday

TRENTON –The Senate Education Committee will meet tomorrow, June 3 at 2PM in Committee Room 6 of the State House Annex to hear testimony tomorrow from Commissioner of Education Bret D. Schundler, on the Department’s plans to address the high failure rate of students who took the Alternative High School Assessment.

The Panel will also vote on a group of bills on issues ranging from the need for a pilot program to end school district disparities in educational technology, to a measure to direct the SCI to investigate the finances of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association.

One measure, S-1473, which is sponsored by Senator Ronald L. Rice, D-Essex, would establish a pilot program within the Department of Education, to integrate educational technology into public school districts that have the greatest technology need.

Another measure, SCR-88, which is sponsored by Senate President Steve Sweeney, D-Gloucester, Cumberland and Salem, would direct the State Commission of Investigation to review the finances of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association to ensure the proper use of taxpayer dollars. #
