Senator Girgenti Reacts To State Of The State Address

Acting Governor Understands Homeland Security Needs

TRENTON – Senator John A. Girgenti, D-Bergen and Passaic, issued the following statement regarding Acting Governor Richard J. Codey’s 2005 State of the State address, which called for the President of the Untied States to realize the need for increased funding for homeland security for New Jersey.

“I applaud Acting Governor Codey for calling on our nation’s President to realize that homeland security is not about red states or blue states, but about the entire Unites States because terrors knows no borders.

“New Jersey has been a target of terrorist attacks in the past and will likely be a target again. Our State has nuclear power plants, oil refineries, chemical plants and booming financial districts and therefore we need to be certain that New Jersey is getting a fair share of federal funding.

“However Governor Codey assured us that New Jersey will continue to work hard on homeland security issues regardless of federal assistance, because we need to be prepared to handle any threat to the security of our citizens. I want to thank Acting Governor Codey for his continued efforts to secure our State.
