Statement From Senate Majority Leader Buono On Christie Inauguration

At a news conference at Edison High School, Senator Barbara Buono, D-Middlesex, speaks about her legislation which would prohibit anyone under 18 from buying over-the-counter cold and cough remedies which contain dextromethorphan (DXM), in order to combat a dangerous trend in teenagers taking excessive doses of DXM to get high.

TRENTON – Senate Majority Leader Barbara Buono (D-Middlesex) today released the following statement on the inauguration of Governor Christopher J. Christie:

“I would like to congratulate Governor Christie on his inauguration as New Jersey’s 55th Governor and wish him all the best.

“The Governor laid out a clear vision today for the road ahead, a vision that will require a great deal of sacrifice and even greater cooperation. It’s important that we are bold and unafraid as we tackle the enormous economic problems that we are facing.

“If there is a silver lining on our current economic situation, it is that it should force people to accept that we need to change the way we manage our finances. Our budget committee has made great progress over the last two years in cutting spending and eliminating Christmas tree items. However, with the precipitous decline in revenue caused by the Great Recession, we no longer have the luxury to make incremental changes anymore. We need broad, fundamental changes to rectify our current problems.”
