Statement Of Senator Jim Whelan On News Of Boutique Casino Filing

NORTHFIELD – Senator Jim Whelan, D-Atlantic, the Chairman of the Senate State Government, Wagering, Tourism and Historic Preservation Committee, released the following statement today regarding news that three casino developers have announced their intentions to apply for small casino licenses:

“Today’s news that Hard Rock International, Gurwicz Enterprises, and Pinnacle Entertainment have taken a formal step to advance their casino development plans is welcome news for Atlantic County. I have said all along that lowering the threshold for hotel rooms would help jumpstart development in Atlantic City and create much needed jobs in the short-term and long-term. The new product that will be offered by these properties is the best medicine for our resort to meet the challenges of out-of-state competition and a stagnant casino economy.”
