Sweeney: Governor Corzine And I Are On The Same Page When It Comes To Property Tax Reform

TRENTON – Senator Steve Sweeney, D-Gloucester, Cumberland and Salem, released the following statement today regarding Governor Corzine’s address to the Legislature and the Joint Session on property tax reform:

“Governor Corzine’s speech listed many of the reforms I’ve been speaking about for the past month. It’s nice not to be standing alone on this.

“I am committed to working with Governor Corzine, Governor Codey who started this initiative in 2005 by commissioning the Benefits Review Task Force report and with the rest of the Legislature to accomplish much-needed property tax reform. The proposed measures require the cooperation of everyone involved – the Governor, the Legislature and the taxpayers.

“We need to make sure that we get real reform from these discussions, so that we aren’t back here 5 years from now, trying to fix the same problem. Let’s make sure we do it right the first and only time around.”
