Senate President Steve Sweeney issued the following statement today regarding passage of S-3096, the Jersey City pension bill:
“Last week Mayor Fulop made his ‘opinion’ about me known. However, for me this is not about name calling or political revenge. It is about the families, pensioners and taxpayers of Jersey City for whom I am most concerned.
“As a pension board chairman I understand the obligation to deliver on the promise to those hard working individuals who earned their pension.
“The Jersey City Pension system’s financial strength must be paramount and can not be driven by general operating budget needs or politics.”
