16 Mar: Rice Bill Looks To Clean Up And Expand Umdnj Board Members

TRENTON – Legislation sponsored by Senator Ronald L. Rice, which would strengthen the capacity of the Board of Trustees at the University of medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ), and create greater oversight by eliminating any perceived conflicts of interest, was approved by the full Assembly by a vote of 69 to 4 and 5 abstentions.

“With the continued media scrutiny of UMDNJ, it is even more important now, to remind the public that the university is still a top research facilities,” said Senator Rice, D-Essex. “The current ethical issues going on at UMDNJ have brought to light the need to ensure that we keep corruption out of our health care industry. The bill also looks to end any disparity in the level of care given between the urban and suburban communities.”

TRENTON – Legislation sponsored by Senator Ronald L. Rice, which would enhance oversight by increasing the members of the board of trustees at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, was approved by the Senate Education Committee today.

“UMDNJ has come under intense media scrutiny after a series of scandals involving the university came to light,” said Senator Rice, D-Essex. “UMDNJ should focus on providing health care and teaching services to the residents of New Jersey. These changes will help to regain the public’s trust in the university by not only expanding membership, but also providing stricter guidelines for choosing members.”

02 Feb: Rice Bill Looks To Expand Voting Umdnj Members

TRENTON – Senator Ronald L. Rice today said voting members of the board of trustees at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey should have “absolutely no employment ties or official links” to the beleaguered State facility or any of its hospital affiliates.

“Membership on the board should be made up solely by those concerned with providing quality health care and teaching services to residents of Newark and other parts of our State,” said Senator Rice, D-Essex, and a longtime advocate for reforming the UMDNJ board of trustees.
