26 Mar: Buono-Weinberg Legislation To Keep Anti-Bullying Legislation Intact Signed Into Law

TRENTON – Legislation sponsored by Senator Barbara Buono and Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg that allows school districts to continue to implement anti-bullying prevention and training programs at no cost to the district was signed into law by Governor Christie.

“The Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights is an imperative piece of legislation that shows students across the Garden State that we will not condone harassment or violence in our schools and that school communities will stand up for bullied students to help and protect them,” said Senator Buono, D-Middlesex. “I am proud that we were able to quickly and effectively determine a working solution to problems that have arisen in the implementation of this legislation so that we can continue to protect the physical and emotional well-being of our children.”

TRENTON – Legislation sponsored by Senator Barbara Buono and Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg that would allow school districts to continue to implement anti-bullying prevention and training programs at no cost to the district was approved today in both the State Senate and the General Assembly, receiving final legislative approval.

“The Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights is landmark legislation that works to ensure every child in New Jersey is afforded a learning environment free from harassment, violence, and predatory behavior,” said Senator Buono (D-Middlesex). “With these changes to the law, school districts should be able to implement protections to ensure that no child is afraid to attend school. As a mother, I stand proud that we have found a working solution to this major public health problem.”

“Hopefully it will be easier for schools to implement the Anti-Bullying law as a result of this agreement. More importantly, it protects all of the victims of bullying who may not have had the law on their side until now,” said Senator Buono (D-Middlesex). “I hope this sends a strong message to students everywhere, who have been harassed, intimidated or bullied, that they are not alone and their pleas have not fallen on deaf ears.”

07 Mar: Vainieri Huttle & Buono Pleased With Bipartisan Solution That Will Keep Landmark Anti-Bullying Law Intact

(TRENTON) – Assemblywoman Valerie Vainieri Huttle (D-Bergen) and Senator Barbara Buono (D-Middlesex), lead sponsors of the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights, today praised the bipartisan solution that has been reached to help school districts fully comply with the landmark law.

“I’m extremely pleased with this solution because at the end of the day, the law has not changed, which means that our goal of protecting the countless students who are at the mercy of bullies day in and day out remains intact,” said Vainieri Huttle. “With any new law of this magnitude, there’s going be some growing pains. This will help assist schools in adjusting and complying with the new requirements. I’m grateful that everyone involved in this process has shown a willingness to work together for the benefit of our students.”
