01 Oct: Scutari Bill To Modernize NJ Marriage License Requirements Clears Budget Committee

TRENTON – Legislation sponsored by Senator Nicholas P. Scutari (D-Union) to modernize the state’s marriage license requirements, which would give New Jersey’s tourism and hospitality industry a competitive advantage over states across the region and the country, was approved today by the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee.

“New Jersey’s coastal location makes it among the most sought after destinations in the country for weddings. Paired with our premier wedding venues and small businesses offering wedding-related services, our state offers couples a first-class experience,” said Senator Scutari. “By modernizing the process of filing for a license, we will make our state even more attractive to out-of-state consumers. Ultimately, this will help to create jobs and to boost our local economies.”

07 Dec: Codey-Vitale Comprehensive Concussion Safety Bill Signed Into Law

EAST RUTHERFORD – A bill sponsored by Senators Richard J. Codey and Joseph F. Vitale which will make New Jersey the state with the most comprehensive concussion prevention and treatment law in the country was signed into law today at a ceremony at the new Meadowlands Stadium.

“No sport is one hundred percent safe, one hundred percent of the time,” said Senator Codey, D-Essex. “The risk of injury is part of athletics, and the best safety precautions and most expensive safety equipment won’t eliminate that risk. However, when it comes to brain injury and head trauma, particularly among our youngest athletes, New Jersey has to get in the game to better protect them from the lifelong medical consequences these injuries can have.”

25 Oct: Codey-Vitale Comprehensive Concussion Safety Bill Receives Final Legislative Approval

TRENTON – A bill sponsored by Senators Richard J. Codey and Joseph F. Vitale which would implement a comprehensive concussion prevention program for student-athletes in New Jersey was unanimously approved by the Assembly today, receiving final legislative approval.

“Through this legislation, we will hopefully be able to protect our most promising student athletes from a lifetime of consequences as a result of multiple concussions,” said Senator Codey, D-Essex. “With the proper safety precautions in place, interscholastic youth sports can be incredibly rewarding for our kids, teaching them the values of teamwork and discipline and encouraging an active lifestyle. But we have to make sure that, above all else, we put our student-athletes health and well-being first, and take proper precautions at the first sign of a concussion.”

TRENTON – A bill sponsored by Senators Richard J. Codey and Joseph F. Vitale which would implement a comprehensive concussion prevention program for student-athletes in New Jersey was unanimously approved by the Senate Education Committee today.

“When it comes to our State’s younger athletes, we have to do a better job protecting them from the life-long consequences of head trauma and brain injury,” said Senator Codey, D-Essex. “Participating in scholastic or inter-scholastic sports can be an incredibly rewarding experience, and can help teach our kids the value of teamwork and fair play. But at the same time, we have to guarantee proper safeguards and precautions to make sure that our kids’ sports experience is a positive and safe one.”

16 May: Rice bill To Expand Nursing Care For Aids Patients Received Final Legislative Approval

TRENTON – Legislation sponsored by Senator Ronald L. Rice which would require the Department of Heath and Senior Services (DHSS) to relax the admissions criteria for a long-term care facility which serves those with AIDS, received final approval in the Assembly today.

“The urban community is quickly losing the battles against AIDS,” said Senator Rice, D-Essex. “Modern medicine has been able to sustain the lives of those infected with AIDS, but many who have this disease are unable to take proper care of themselves. Those with other illnesses need special nursing care, but are denied because of strict admissions rules.”

24 Jan: Rice Bill To Expand Admissions Criteria For Nursing Care For Aids Patients

TRENTON – Legislation sponsored by Senator Ronald L. Rice which would require the Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) to establish a Medicaid admissions criteria for a long-term care facility that would serve those with HIV/AIDS, was approved in the Senate Heath, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee today.

“The AIDS virus is a deadly disease that is hitting the poor urban communities who are in the most need of special nursing care,” said Senator Rice, D-Essex. “Medical professionals have found ways to sustain the lives of those infected with the HIV/AIDS virus with doctors check-ups and substantial doses of medications. Unfortunately, many people who have AIDS also have other illnesses that make it difficult to take proper care of themselves, and we need to ensure that nursing care is provided to those individuals.”
