Turner: Blue Acres Funding Will Help Flood Victims

TRENTON – Senator Shirley K. Turner, D-Mercer and co-sponsor of S-3005, the “Green Acres, Farmland, Blue Acres and Historic Preservation Bond Act of 2007” which would provide historic relief to flood victims in Trenton and Ewing, made the following statement today after Governor Jon Corzine signed the bill into law:

“The voters have a historic opportunity this year to provide much needed relief to those families living along the Delaware River who have seen far more flooding than they could have ever imagined.

“The $12 million in funding as provided in the bond issue for the State’s Blue Acres program is a great first step in giving these families an opportunity to move out of the flood plain and into less environmentally sensitive areas. Hopefully once we find a stable funding source for open space acquisition, we can expand this program even further.

“Countless families in Trenton and Ewing will be able to escape the regular floods they have been victim to over the past few years. The Blue Acres program will bring these families peace of mind so that every heavy rain doesn’t bring fears of damage to their homes and property.”
