Turner Statement On DEP Meeting With Trenton Water Works, City

TRENTON – Senator Shirley K. Turner (D-Mercer) today released the following statement regarding the Department of Environmental Protection’s meeting with Trenton Water Works and Trenton City Mayor Tony Mack on last week’s water fiasco:

“I’m glad Commissioner Martin moved expeditiously on my request to fully investigate the actions that led to water service disruptions in the Trenton area and the failure of officials to effectively communicate the problem to residents the company serves.

“I look forward to reviewing Trenton Water Works’ report and the independent evaluation of plant operations so we can determine exactly what happened and take the necessary action to ensure this kind of incident never happens again.

“In the short-term, the City of Trenton and Trenton Water Works officials must work swiftly on a plan that will guarantee going forward that residents are immediately alerted in the event of a potential public health risk. The commotion caused by this communication blunder could have easily been avoided had a plan been in place.”
